Historic Vacation Rental Home in Georgeville, Quebec
Welcome to our new blog, which will feature news about The Old Mansion House, the village of Georgeville, and the Eastern Townships – starting with...

instagram feedHere in the Eastern Townships, times are tough for a lot of people right now. Over its history of more than 130 years The Old Mansion House has weathered a lot of storms, and will no doubt weather many more. But our hearts go out to our wonderful neighbours, so many of whom are facing a struggle to survive through these tough times.

Local businesses have worked hard to find ways to adapt, supporting the community and looking to the future while dealing with the challenges and ensuring that no one is forgotten. We regularly share their posts on Instagram (click on The area to see our Instagram feed). The response to these shared posts gave us an idea of how we could go further – by creating a directory of local enterprises here on our website.

A FLAVOUR OF THE TOWNSHIPS will showcase local enterprises offering services such as fresh produce, food, drink, prepared meals etc. so that our guests, website visitors and social media followers can discover the wonderful range available in this very special region.

IF YOU ARE BASED IN THE EASTERN TOWNSHIPS and would like your business included in the directory, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Include your business name, a description of your products (not more than 50 words) and full contact details, plus any photo and/or logo you would like included.

family cycle rideCycling is a great way to see the Eastern Townships, and you don't have to be super fit. CLICK HERE for examples of some lovely paths in the Townships that suit all levels of fitness and expertise, and will take you through wonderful landscapes with great views.

Or you can take a leisurely bike ride to explore the local towns and villages and the treats on offer at friendly cafés, bakeries, farms, orchards and vineyards. The Old Mansion House makes a good base this kind of trip – and an ideal setting to try out recipes with fresh produce bought along the way.

One of our favourite treats is a trip to Laiterie de Coaticook – just follow the link and you'll see why! It's a tempting destination at any time of the year, but makes an especially good incentive for a bike ride in the warmer months.

If you're planning a stay at The Old Mansion House and either don't have a bike, or don't want to bring it with you, that's not a problem. CLICK HERE  for a list of places where you can rent a bike, for an outing or for a few days.

Cycling: not strictly for the birds...
With a little planning, it can be a treat for everyone.

sugar seasonSugar maple trees thrive in Quebec – they like cold winters, and for the sap to flow in spring they need cold nights and sunny days, so the climate is perfect. Starting around the middle of March, as the sap begins to rise, the sugar season lasts for around 6 weeks. And if you love sweet things, it's a great time to visit!

Using traditional methods, syrup and sugar is produced in sugar shacks (cabanes à sucre), many of which are open to visitors throughout the season, with menus and activities offering a taste of the tradition.

Visiting a sugar shack makes a wonderful day out, and the extensive kitchen at The Old Mansion House is ideal for experimenting with recipes using maple syrup products.
